The European Nuclear Robotics and Disaster Response and Recovery Hackathon (EnRicH) is an applied multi-domain robotics trial held in the decommissioned Zwentendorf nuclear power plant in Austria. Organized by the Fraunhofer FKIE institute, EnRicH addresses complex CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive) intervention challenges. Participating robotic platforms—encompassing unmanned ground vehicles, aerial drones, and multi-sensor systems—navigate complex, shielded indoor radiation environments where typical wireless communication and GPS signals are severely impaired. Teams are evaluated on 3D radiation mapping, autonomous navigation, object identification, manipulation, and the swift location and rescue of casualties. It serves as an essential global testbed for real-world disaster robotics readiness.
