What is it?
The S5 Max is Roborock's landmark combo robot — the first to combine precise LiDAR mapping with truly differentiated zone-level water control. It elevated mopping from an afterthought to a genuine cleaning function in the robot vacuum segment.
Who is it for?
Hard floor homeowners wanting the most precise combo cleaning available at the $349 price point. Households with multiple room types requiring different mopping intensities. Those upgrading from the S5 (vacuum only) wanting mopping without sacrificing navigation precision.

Zone water control significance
Pre-S5 Max robots used a single water flow rate for the entire floor. The S5 Max introduced per-zone water intensity in the Roborock app, allowing different rooms to receive different water volumes in the same cleaning run — more water on kitchen tile, less near carpeted areas, none in specific zones entirely.
Limitations
- Discontinued — succeeded by S6 MaxV and S7 series
- Drag-mop style (no sonic scrubbing)
- No self-empty station
- 2000 Pa suction lower than later generation Roborocks
FAQ
Can the S5 Max set different water levels per room?
Yes. This is the S5 Max's defining feature. In the Roborock app, each mapped room or zone can be assigned a different water output level (off, low, medium, high) applied during the cleaning run.
Is the Roborock S5 Max still available?
The S5 Max has been discontinued by Roborock and succeeded by the S6 MaxV and S7 series. It remains available in the used and refurbished market.
What is the difference between S5 and S5 Max?
The S5 is vacuum-only. The S5 Max adds the large electronically-controlled 290 mL water tank mopping system with zone water control.
Does S5 Max have recharge and resume?
Yes. The S5 Max automatically returns to base when battery is low and resumes the cleaning job from where it stopped.
What Roborock replaced the S5 Max?
The Roborock S6 MaxV (2020) succeeded the S5 Max by adding dual cameras and ReactiveAI obstacle avoidance. The S7 series (2021) subsequently added sonic mopping technology.
